blank, white walls
blank, white walls
by Eagle Bear
blank, white walls
inside this apartment
surround on all sides
no portraits or paintings
hung up for color
deaf as pale
not to dictate
but to reflect back
life as has been lived
when life is being lived
their shine not as obvious
as when stuck inside
or when the choice is made
to stay inside waiting
for life to happen
a search for meaning
during this pandemic
is to feel tension in lips
closed but not pursed
sometimes a blank page
makes a better fantasy
than the best lover
but not this time
blank, white walls
don’t project Hands
that grip their protege
at the nape
that don't project hands
as they seek their own
red light district revelation
they won’t project the space
of breath being shared
between two in play
one man’s body pulled closer
on impulse of desire
but these moments of heat
played on mental projector
dull these white walls
for just long enough
to jar the thinker
they are a reminder
of what awaits
on the other side
when the order if lifted
and both can leave home
give 20-second hugs
raise glasses in chear
to festive drag queens
who kept us entertained
that “gotta-keep-the-lights-on”
Jewel that shines so bright
boys hungry for a good time
boys who just want a beer
people who seek refuge
against abuse and neglect
they face at home right now
when the connections
a community faces
all risk vanishing
if not tended to well enouhg
when we mix with the sad reality
that history will repeat
in some future decade
because we haven’t learned
what blank, white walls
are supposed to mean in art
these blank, white walls
fix fortunes on learning
how to show the future
not just to tell it
how to hint and cruise
how to die and then to live
once again we are
thrust into a coon
once again we will emerge
to embrace the highest
totem animal: butterfly
we will spread our wings
swoop a relief loop
